| PURE – Project on Urban Reduction
of Eutrophication implements
one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce the eutrophication of the
Baltic Sea: it enhances phosphorus removal at municipal wastewater
treatment plants. The project partners aim to achieve an average annual
concentration of 0.5 mg phosphorus / litre in outgoing wastewaters. This
is the level recommended by the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. PURE also
maps, develops and shares good practices and innovative techniques on
handling and recycling wastewater sludge. The Baltic Sea Challenge together with PURE-project and John Nurminen Foundation organised an international Challenge for a Healthier Sea -seminar on 9.2.2010 in Helsinki for the Baltic Sea Region harbours and water works.

| The BSR InnoShip project will address the joint challenge of the Baltic Sea countries and the key marine stakeholders to cooperate in minimizing ship based air pollution, while aiming at optimizing competitiveness.
The project promotes efforts to make the Baltic Sea a model region for clean shipping. The project will produce information of sustainable management of the resources and up-to-date knowledge of innovative technical solutions for political decision-makers, authorities, shipping companies and other stakeholders of the marine industry. Raising public awareness and sharing the information efficiently are an important part of the project.
