CITYWATER

What and why

“CITYWATER – Benchmarking water protection in cities” is a three year project that works for improving the state of coastal waters in the Baltic Sea. Focus is on concrete water protection measures at the local level, with an emphasis on the role of cities and municipalities.

Cities and municipalities around the Baltic Sea directly benefit from healthy coastal waters, but they also affect the state of the sea through their various activities. Thus cities and municipalities play a key role for improving the state of coastal waters and the Baltic Sea as a whole.

CITYWATER works in close collaboration with the Baltic Sea Challenge network. The main geographical focus of the project is the Baltic States Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
