22-23 March 2018, St. Petersburg
Local BSAP – the role of municipalities in implementation of the HELCOM BSAP
Baltic Sea Challenge co-organised a roundtable (parallell session) on 22 March 2018 with UBC and RFTB on local Baltic Sea Action Plans as part of the Baltic Sea Day event in St. Petersburg. The roundtable explored how strategic water protection at the municipal level is enhanced and supported by international collaboration.
The roundtable highlighted how international collaboration amongst Union of the Baltic Cities, Baltic Sea Challenge and Race for the Baltic supports municipalities to develop and implement local Baltic Sea Action Plans. These networks and initiatives provide a comprehensive support base for municipalities in the Baltic Sea Region to take “voluntary-based” initiatives for a clean and prosperous Baltic Sea.
We also examined possibilities for increasing international collaboration and engagement regarding the role municipalities can play to implement the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan.
