High Level Forum on our common Baltic Sea 

City of Helsinki organised the Forum on 1 November 2019 in co-operation with City of St. Petersburg, Baltic Sea Challenge, East office, RMEY ry and the BSAG. The event was held in the Empire Hall of the City Hall. 

Altogether 90 participants from Finland and Russia participted in the Forum.

High level representatives from the Cities of Helsinki and St. Petersburg, Ministry of Environment of Finland, Parliament of Finland and the State Duma of Russia opened the Forum.  

After the opening session, expert sessions presented points of view in 

  • soil and climate (BSAG and European University of St. Petersburg), 
  • protection of underwater biodiversity (VELMU/Finnish Environment Institute, St. Petersburg Vodokanal and SET CleanTech Ltd.) and 
  • cooperation between cities in protecting the Baltic Sea (Baltic Sea Challenge and Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg) 

A panel discussion finalised the Forum with discussion on how to go forward together for our common Sea, with representatives from the City of Helsinki, Cargotec Ltd. and Finnish Environment Institute.
